The President in an interview with Fox News explained that he instructed Rudy Giuliani to deal with Ukraine because of his reputation as a ” great fighter against crime»
President Donald trump said Friday that the forthcoming report of the us Department of justice on the origins of the Russian investigation will be “historic.” The President said this in an interview with the hosts of “Fox and friends” on Fox News.
During a phone call with television hosts, the President spoke about a report by justice Department inspector General Michael Horowitz that examines how the Federal Bureau of investigation complied with the requirements of the foreign intelligence surveillance act during the Russia investigation. The investigation was opened in 2016 during the presidential election campaign.
“They say it [the report] is historic,” trump said, declining to elaborate. “That’s what I’ve heard,” the President added.
Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told Fox News on Wednesday that publication of the report is scheduled for December 9.
“So what you’re going to see, I guess, is probably the biggest scandal in the history of our country,” the President continued, revealing that he had assigned attorney General William Barr to oversee the investigation.
“And if this is a historical [report], then you will see something. And then maybe it’s even more important, soon after that you’ll have [Prosecutor] John Durham’s report – and he’s already said that [it’s about] a criminal [case], ” Donald trump said.
The President has repeatedly accused senior Obama administration officials of allowing” spying ” on trump’s campaign staff during the 2016 campaign.
Inspector General Horowitz has been investigating alleged violations related to surveillance warrants issued by the foreign intelligence surveillance Court for a year and a half. The Department of justice and the FBI received permission in 2016 to spy on former trump adviser Carter page. At the moment, it is unknown whether the court issued permits for surveillance of other employees of the trump campaign staff.
Rudy Giuliani tasked with dealing with Ukraine to fight corruption
In the interview, trump said he had instructed his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to work with Ukraine due to his reputation as a “great crime fighter.” The President said he wanted Giuliani to get involved in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
Commenting on the open impeachment hearings that took place this week in the House of representatives, the President said that Democrats during the hearings “looked like fools.”
“And these were their witnesses. It was the best they could get, “the President continued, calling Adam Schiff, Chairman of the House intelligence Committee, a”psycho.”
Mike Pence will again be nominated for Vice President
Commenting on the upcoming election campaign, trump confirmed that he would again invite incumbent Vice President Mike Pence to join his campaign team in the 2020 election.
“He is my man, he is my friend,” the President said. He noted that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley would also have done a great job as Vice President, but Pence, according to trump, did a ” phenomenal job.”
