The President is studying a bill on the protests in Hong Kong
Us President Donald trump has not said whether he will approve or veto a bill passed by Congress in support of protesters in Hong Kong.
This bill was supported by all senators and almost all congressmen (only one member of the House of representatives voted” against”).
Trump said he told Chinese leader XI Jinping that a crackdown on protesters in Hong Kong would have a “huge negative impact” on efforts to end the 16-month trade war between the US and China.
“If it wasn’t for me, Hong Kong would have been destroyed in 14 minutes,” trump told Fox News channel.
When trump was asked what he intends to do with the bill in support of protesters in Hong Kong, he did not give a specific answer:
“Look, we have to support Hong Kong, but we also support President XI. He’s my friend. He’s an incredible guy that we have to support.”
The President’s veto can be overturned by a two-thirds vote in the Senate and in the House of representatives. If trump does nothing, the bill will automatically become law on December 3.
