Us Secretary of state Mike Pompeo plans to leave the administration of us President Donald trump. This is reported by Time, citing informed sources in the Republican party.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Pompeo announced his intention to participate in the elections for the U.S. Senate from Kansas in 2020. Initially, the head of the state Department planned to remain in office until the spring of 2020. However, he has now reconsidered his plans, as recent events, in particular the impeachment procedure of trump, are damaging his image.
Pompeo’s aides have not commented.
As Secretary of state, Pompeo replaced Rex Tillerson, before he served as head of the CIA.
On 31 October the house of representatives passed a resolution in support of the impeachment of the President, accusing trump of the abuse of power and pressure on the Ukrainian leadership. The reason for this was two telephone conversations trump with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
On November 15, the White house published the contents of the first, April conversation between trump and Zelensky, in which they discussed the possibility of a visit by the American leader to the inauguration of the latter.
Before that, in September, the media published that during the next, July conversation with Zelensky, the head of the White house called on Kiev to investigate the activities of hunter Biden-the son of his potential rival in the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden.
Suspicions were denied by the publication of the transcript of the conversation, but later it became known that the transcript contains gaps.
Trump, in turn, called the open hearings on the process a fraud.
The next us presidential election is due in 2020.
