American ships passed near Islands claimed by China

As stated in the FMS, these missions are based on the principle of the rule of law

U.S. Navy ships have twice passed near South China sea Islands claimed by China in recent days, the U.S. military told Reuters.

The coast guard battleship Gabriel Giffords passed within 12 nautical miles of Mischief reef on Wednesday, Seventh fleet spokeswoman Rianne Mommsen said.

She also said the destroyer Wayne E. Meyer on Thursday ignored Chinese restrictions by passing near the Paracel Islands.

“These missions are based on the principle of the rule of international law and demonstrate our firm intention to defend the rights, freedoms and legitimate use of sea and air space guaranteed to all countries,” she stressed.

Chinese armed forces on Friday confirmed that two American ships had passed through disputed waters and said they were monitoring their movements.
